Scrumptious Food in Medan

My 3 months trip back home to Indonesia is a total awesomeness (except the working part =p), especially in the aspect of getting myself fatten up though I still lose weight in the end. During my stay in Indo, I visited both Jakarta and Medan (my hometown) and of course the type of cuisine is different from each other due to cultural divergent I suppose. In Medan, the food fusion is mainly dominated with Chinese style of cooking and culinary in Medan can be considered a top notch in Indonesia.

Here are some famous local food in Medan:

Mie Tiongsim

Mie tiongsim is a bowl of handmade noodle served with BBQ pork and wonton. As per your request, you could also add some fried pork fat to top the noodle. This noodle stall has been established ages ago way before I was born indeed and the demand and popularity for people to eat this bowl of fantastic noodle has remained unchanged or even increasing throughout the year. The noodle taste is simply unique and you may never find any other noodle stall around the world that serves noodle with similar taste. The wonton is superb and when you pop it into your mouth, you will feel the "pork satisfaction" you get from it. Therefore, this is the best wonton noodle I have ever tasted yet! However, it is better to eat at the outlet instead of buying it as a takeaway as it reduces the quality of the noodle taste.

Tabona Beehoon Curry



This small restaurant is always full with crowds. Although I don't really fancy this restaurant so much, this bowl of creamy curry is worth to try and I am sure you will just love it. The curry does not has strong Indian flavor but still rich in its spices. You could opt for vermicelli or rice as companion.

Black Pepper Crabs @ Hawii


Crabs served in this outlet can be considered really fresh. You could actually choose you own still-alive-crab before they process it into scrumptious dishes. We opt for 2 pieces of female crabs weighted at 500grams each. I personally prefer the female one as I enjoy the delicacy of the egg. Besides of its good quality crabs, they also serve really pleasant-tasting sauce. Worth to try!
